The Interuniversity Institute of Social Development and Peace (IUDESP), set up in 2006 and based in Universitat Jaume I in Castelló and in Universitat d’Alacant, aims to develop research and teaching on issues related to peace and development in their wider meaning. Phenomena related to direct violence (origin and prevention of inter and intra-state conflicts, gender violence), structural violence (inequality, poverty and social equity) and cultural violence (culture and education for peace, multiculturality, violence and media), are the main lines of research of the group, always having the gender perspective as a transverse.
The headquarters in Castelló count on the UNESCO Chair of Philosophy for Peace since 1999 and teach the university degrees of International Master and PhD in Peace, Conflict and Development Studies (which have received a quality award from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Education). In the formation of these two degrees, given in both English and Spanish, have participated students from all continents and lecturers from the most prestigious national and international academic institutions.
