{"id":45,"date":"2025-09-02T11:48:54","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T09:48:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.uji.es\/titan\/?page_id=45"},"modified":"2025-09-03T08:13:38","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T06:13:38","slug":"45-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uji.es\/titan\/","title":{"rendered":"Safeguarding Rights in the Age of AI Language Services"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is TITAN?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>TITAN (<em>Translation and Interpreting Technologies and Accountability Network<\/em>) is a collaborative research project that explores how&nbsp;<strong>AI-based translation and interpreting (ATI)<\/strong>&nbsp;systems shape our societies.<br>Our mission is simple but ambitious: to ensure that language technologies are used&nbsp;<strong>responsibly, inclusively, and ethically<\/strong>, protecting rights and strengthening democracy in a multilingual world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why TITAN Matters<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>AI-powered language services are now everywhere \u2014 from public administrations and hospitals to global businesses and everyday communication.<br>But their rapid adoption comes with risks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mistranslations that can affect health, justice, and governance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Biases that reinforce inequality and discrimination.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Loss of linguistic and cultural diversity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Weakening of democratic debate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>TITAN addresses these challenges by building awareness, producing&nbsp;<strong>practical guidelines<\/strong>, and creating a&nbsp;<strong>certification system<\/strong>&nbsp;to recognize accountable and ethical uses of ATI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Our Approach<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>TITAN brings together experts from&nbsp;<strong>translation and interpreting studies, law, sociology, technology, gender studies, and public policy<\/strong>&nbsp;alongside industry and international organizations.<br>Together, we:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Study risks, biases, and rights violations in ATI.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Benchmark practices in public institutions, companies, and NGOs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop literacy and training materials for safe ATI use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foster international collaboration for a&nbsp;<strong>global certification system<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Our Vision<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A future where language services:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Protect rights<\/strong>&nbsp;and empower all communities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Respect diversity<\/strong>&nbsp;and promote inclusion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Support democracy<\/strong>&nbsp;by ensuring accurate, transparent, and accountable multilingual communication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Explore our site<\/strong>&nbsp;to learn more about our research, meet the team, follow our activities, and discover how you can engage with TITAN.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is TITAN?
