Consortium: UJI, UIB, UTEK (Unmanned Teknologies Applications S.L.), NARWHAL BOATS, S.L.
Summary:
A collaboration between universities and SMEs, funded by the Ministry of Defense, develops a national system for early detection of underwater threats – such as enemy submarines or mines – using unmanned vehicles and sensor networks that, in addition, may also have civil application.
The system, currently under development, will be composed of an unmanned surface vessel that will integrate an autonomous underwater vehicle. Both vehicles have various sensors incorporated to detect potential marine threats, in addition to all the necessary elements to facilitate communications and autonomous navigation. The set is completed with a network of sensors deployed on buoys. All elements of the system communicate with each other and send data, in real time, to a remote control station that allows remote operation of unmanned vehicles. The combination of fixed and mobile sensors allows optimization of resources and better coverage of the area to be protected. The set is completed with automatic threat detection and identification systems and, in addition, a specific simulation environment that will facilitate the training of the system’s end users.
